(CNN) - The US Defense Secretary, Beit Higseth, announced on Monday the issuance of "additional capabilities" directives in the Middle East.
"Protection of American forces is our top priority, and the deployment of these additional capabilities aims to strengthen our defensive position in the region," said Higseth, on the "X" platform (formerly Twitter).

Sources reported to the CNN network earlier Monday that the Nemitz aircraft carrier went to the Middle East "without delay", in light of the escalation of the conflict between Israel and Iran.
Israel launched an unprecedented attack on Iran, at dawn on Friday, targeting the heart of the Iranian nuclear program and senior military leaders, which led to the dumping of the Middle East in a new state of uncertainty.
On the other hand, Iran confirmed that, on Friday evening, it fired hundreds of ballistic missiles at the beginning of its response to Israel.
