Aoun calls for pressure on Israel to withdraw from the south, and the army will begin to disarm Hezbollah with its "limited potential"

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun called on the United States to pressure Israel to "withdraw from the lands it occupies in the south, so that the Lebanese army can complete its deployment until the international borders."

According to the Lebanese News Agency, Aoun's statements came during a meeting held on Saturday in a palace in Beirut, between Aoun and the leader of the Central US Command, Brad Cooper, in the presence of the US Ambassador to Lebanon Lisa Johnson, and the participation of General Michael Lenny, head of the ceasefire supervision committee, which was formed in the framework of the November agreement.

According to the agency, Aoun asked the American military official to activate the work of the committee to "secure the implementation of what was agreed upon", stressing that this "helps in implementing the decision taken by the Lebanese government to limit weapons in the hands of the Lebanese armed forces."

"The Lebanese army will start implementing the plan, but according to the available capabilities, which are the limited logistical, material and human capabilities," said the Lebanese Minister of Information, Paul Morcos, after reciting the government's statement.

According to the government's statement, the Council of Ministers decided to maintain the content of the plan "secret".

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam wrote, on the X x, "We welcomed the cabinet in the army's plan to restrict weapons to all Lebanese territories and implement them within the framework scheduled for August 5, 2025."

He added: "We decided to ask the army leadership to submit a monthly report to the Council of Ministers regarding the progress in implementing this plan."

Barak's last visit to Lebanon

The American special resurrection to Syria and Lebanon, Thomas Barak earlier, had canceled his visit to Madini Tire and Time in southern Lebanon in light of popular stances rejecting his visit. Barak, with an American delegation, was expected to visit southern Lebanon, starting from the Lebanese army barracks in the Marjayoun area, passing through the border town of Khayyam with Israel, then the city of Tire.

However, the visit was met with calls for youth gatherings and protest stances on the visit, in rejecting government decision to disarm Hezbollah.

Brak said on Tuesday that Lebanon will submit a plan on August 31 to persuade Hezbollah to abandon its weapon.

Barak added after his meeting with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun in Beirut, that Israel will make a proposal for the Lebanese plan.

Barak said that the plan prepared by Lebanon will not necessarily involve a military action to persuade Hezbollah to throw its weapons.

"The Lebanese army and the Lebanese government do not talk about a war, they are talking about how to persuade Hezbollah to abandon these weapons," the envoy added.

"Acts" stage

"We all encouraged us a lot with the historical decision taken by the government a few weeks ago, but the stage now is not just for the sayings, but for deeds," said the deputy envoy Morgan Ortagus from Beirut on Tuesday.

"We are here to help the Lebanese government move forward in this historic decision, and to work with our partners in Israel step by step. So, with every step the Lebanese government will take, we will encourage the Israeli government to take the same step," Ortus added.

Lebanon was waiting for the American delegation to hold an Israeli response to an American paper on the schedule and mechanism of removing Hezbollah, which also includes security arrangements at the border and the withdrawal of Israel from points in which there is in southern Lebanon.

"The reason they were unable to respond specifically is that we have not provided them with details yet," Barak told reporters in the presidential palace.

    "We will not abandon it"

Hezbollah has advanced the delegation to reach Beirut by renewing its refusal to hand over its weapon.

His Secretary -General Naim Qasim said on Monday: "Let it be known to you, the weapon that our dear will not be abandoned," adding, "Whoever wants to take away this weapon means that he wants to remove the soul from us."

Earlier this month, the Secretary -General warned the Lebanese government against entering a confrontation with the party, saying that "there is no life for Lebanon" if the government sought this.

The Lebanese group received painful strikes due to the war with Israel last year, in which many of the group's leaders and fighters were killed.

Qasim said that Hezbollah and its ally Amal movement decided to post demonstrations against the US -backed disarmament plan to provide room for dialogue with the government.

Qasim warned that any future protests may reach the American embassy in Beirut.

Israel has shouted that it would reduce its military presence in southern Lebanon if the Lebanese army moves to disarm Hezbollah, according to a statement issued by the Israeli Prime Minister's office.

Israel has kept its forces in five strategic heights in Lebanon, and continues to launch almost daily strikes on different areas in Lebanon, noting that it targets weapons depots for Hezbollah and leaders in it.
