Anas Sharif

The journalist, Annce Al -Sharif, Al -Jazeera correspondent, was killed on August 10, with four other journalists, in an Israeli air strike near Al -Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.

The twenty -eight -year -old was keen to transfer the news from the field, and he always appeared on the screen from the areas near the bombing sites or clashes. Al -Sharif left, leaving his daughter Sham (4 years) and his son Salah (year), who had left them before after that after he insisted on staying in the northern Gaza Strip to convey the news, refusing to comply with the eviction orders by the Israeli forces.

As soon as the killing of Sharif was announced, a tweet appeared on his account on X, he wrote previously for this day, in which he said: "If my words arrived in these words, know that Israel has succeeded in killing and silencing my voice."

He added: "I lived the pain in all its details, and I was tasted and lost again, and despite that, I never hesitated to convey the truth as it is, without forgery or distortion, so that God will be a witness to those who were silent and accepted our killing, and those who surrounded our breath and did not move the remains of our children and our women in their hearts inhabited and did not stop the massacre that we have been exposed to for more than a year."

Anas Al -Sharif lost his father during this war, in a raid targeting the family home in December 2023.

The Israeli army announced that it had targeted Anas al -Sharif, claiming that it was "worked as the head of a terrorist cell in Hamas", but the army provided only a few evidence to support its claim, as Anas denied these accusations earlier, and Al -Jazeera and human rights organizations also rejected these allegations.

Laws and legislations for the protection of journalists during wars

The Organization for the Protection of Journalists confirms that journalists are civilians, and they are doing a very important job during crises, and they should not be targeted by any party. Sherif Mansour, coordinator of the Middle East and North Africa program in the organization's report on the war in Gaza, says that journalists make great sacrifices, especially those inside the Strip, as they paid and are still paying a heavy price, and they face great threats.

This is not the first time that journalists have been killed in this conflict, most of them Palestinians, but according to the Organization for the Protection of Journalists, the Israeli investigations "resemble the black box" in its length and secret, as there is no policy document describing the nature of the investigation process. The organization says that since Israel began assessments of such cases since 2014, it has been evaluated in 5 cases in which journalists were killed, but none of them led to a criminal investigation.

Even with other cases reaching the investigation stage, human rights groups have criticized these investigations, saying that they are based on the testimonies of the soldiers without collecting other evidence, as they were taking place after a long time after the incidents that are being investigated.
